I am disappointed that Finding Neverland wasn't a box office hit in Hong Kong. I thought it was excellent.
Johnny Depp as James Barry is amazing. Barry is portrayed as a man who seems restrained and reclusive but whose imagination is lively and passionate. He is a man who works to make his dreams come true, even if they seem impossible.
In the shadow of his brother's death, his belief in himself and the power of his imagination keeps him going. 'Believe, Peter, just believe,' are the words of the final scene.
These words made a great impact on me. The film left me wanting to believe that I can have dreams and that I do not have to follow in other people's footsteps.
Another thing that hit me was Neverland. After watching this movie, I realised that everyone has their own Neverland. Neverland isn't something that exists only in childhood; it is a place where the happiest times of our lives never fade and where anger, sorrow and deceit never exist.
As we grow up, our childlike innocence is repressed as we're forced to face the facts of life in order to survive. Our materialistic and competitive society has turned us into pragmatists. But Barry draws us into a process of self-discovery, to find our own Neverlands. Dare to imagine. If we believe in it, we can find real happiness.
