Port group touts Jintang Island container development plan
Ningbo Port Group is in talks with private companies, including Cosco Pacific, ahead of new port projects planned for this year in Zhejiang province.
Ningbo Port president Li Linghong said the company had plans for a 20-berth container development on Jintang Island near Zhoushan.
'We are discussing the project with several companies, including Cosco Pacific,' Mr Li told reporters yesterday while attending a conference in Hong Kong organised by Zhejiang officials.
Wei Jiafu, the chief executive of Cosco Group, last month said its Hong Kong-listed subsidiary Cosco Pacific would be interested in investing in Ningbo. But the blue-chip company would not comment yesterday.
Although the Jintang project has yet to be approved by the central government, Mr Li said 'preliminary preparation' work had already begun.
