I F YOU ARE thinking of enrolling in an overseas summer school, there are a few 'extras' to take care of this year.
According to the British Council, three out of 23 institutions on its United Kingdom summer school programme will not admit any students from Sars-affected areas this year.
However, Magdalene Li, media relations manager at the British Council, said most summer schools in the UK in fact welcomed Hong Kong students. 'Apart from these three schools, students still have other choices,' Ms Li explained.
So far, she said, there were no restrictions on close-contact activities and students were not required to wear face masks in class. They could also visit museums and tourist areas in the country freely.
Despite this, students still need to check out a few things with their overseas school. Some institutions may require students to have a medical certificate issued by a doctor. The health assessment should be taken 10 days or a week before departure.
Students may also be asked to take their temperature for the first 10 days upon their arrival. So packing a thermometer is almost as important as your toothbrush and passport.
