LIKE MOST OF US, Canto-pop singer Juno Mak Chun-lung is likely to be celebrating Father's Day with his family on Sunday. After all, the 19-year-old has much to thank his dad for.

If the local media and music critics are anything to go by, the 'young upstart' owes his showbiz career to his tycoon father Clement Mak Siu-tong - head of a local telecommunications company.

Mak senior reportedly helped launch his son's singing career last year by paying for much of the promotional and publicity materials and even - according to gossip columns - his 'fans'.

Which leads us to wonder: Where would Juno Mak be today if it wasn't for his father?

When Young Post asked Mak in this interview about reports regarding his father's 'big help', his assistant abruptly interrupted and asked whether our photographer was in a hurry. (He wasn't.)

Then Mak, who came across as polite and friendly, explained: 'Perhaps my family members have given me a lot of emotional support and they will continue to do so as long as [this] is my dream. They have been standing by me through thick and thin.' He insists that, contrary to media reports, he has not received any financial support from his father.

His relationship with his father is based on love - not money.
