It is hard to imagine daily life without electricity. But just how much do you know about this source of energy and the industry that runs it?

Well, you can now find out everything you want, and need, to know about electricity at a newly renovated exhibition centre in Tuen Mun.

Operated by Castle Peak Power Company (CAPCO), ElectriCity is where you can learn more about the industry through interactive games.

You will learn not only basic knowledge about electricity but also the latest technologies used by the industry.

CAPCO said the scientific education centre is targeted at secondary school students although the firm also encourages their parents to participate in its tours.

Located inside a power station, the modern design of the renovated centre is eye-catching.

A spiral of neon lights twirls its way to the ceiling highlighting the important dates of some milestones in the history of the power industry in Hong Kong.

Within the foyer are three projector screens through which short films outline the history of ExxonMobil Energy and CLP Power - CAPCO's two partners.

You can also test your knowledge of electricity and power generation by trying out the computer quiz. On the second level, there is an exhibition gallery that brings you back to the era when coal-burning stoves and oil-lamps were daily commodities and when electrical appliances were unheard of.

Travelling through a 'time tunnel', you will arrive at another section that introduces the birth of electricity generation. A generator demonstrates the basic principles of electricity.

You will find models of the coal-fired units at Castle Peak Power Station and the gas-fired combined-cycle units at Black Point Power Station.

Videos illustrate how the units operate.

The power station also holds regular spectacular fun fair events for thousands of people from the neighbouring community.

ElectriCity will be opened to the public on September 8. Visitors in groups are welcomed.
