The Hong Kong Blueprint 2010 project, organised by the youth group Hok Yau Club, aims to arouse students' interest in the city's future. For the project, students' suggestions were sealed in a time capsule to be opened in a decade's time.

Participants took part in forums and workshops to learn about Hong Kong's past and present. They also visited Shanghai, Taiwan and Singapore to examine the economy, education and environmental protection, respectively. Then they wrote developmental proposals for the next 10 years to create their ideal Hong Kong.

One participant, Carol Lui Fung-kiu, 22, a student at the Institute of Vocational Education, said some official policies were unworkable so she wanted to write her own proposals for the Government.

She hoped government policies could help the poor to improve their standard of living and enable more people to get tertiary education.

Another participant, Avant Leung Yau-wai, 21, from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), said the Shanghai visit had helped him to understand Hong Kong better. He had learned what Shanghai people thought about Hong Kong. He hoped Hong Kong people would identify more with the SAR and China.
