Despite the glorious weather, yesterday was a very disappointing day all round for fifth formers who failed to make the grade to even secure a place to repeat Form Five studies.

While some students - but mostly their parents - began their frantic search for a place at another school after the initial shock had sunk in, those who had expected the worst were calmly planning their next course of action.

However, when approached by Young Post after the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) results were released at 9 am, a few students who had performed badly were too distressed to answer any questions.

Cheung Chun-yee from SKH Li Fook Hing Secondary School broke down in tears when she found out she only passed three subjects and had five points.

'I can't apply for diploma courses offered by IVE [Institute of Vocational Education] as I have failed both Chinese and English,' she said.

'I'm going to look for government schools to repeat Form Five first, then private schools, if there are no places. I may think about studying for an associate degree.'

Schoolmate Yeung Yu-fong who did equally badly said she would look for a part-time course instead of repeating Form Five.
