PLEA FOR SUPPORT: Representatives from four trade organisations in Hong Kong, from left, Felix Chan Kwok-wai, president of the HK Chamber of Small and Medium Business; Raymond Lo, chairman public relations sub-committee of the Chinese Executive Club; Sammy So, president of IT Accountants Association; and Derek Lam, president, Marketing Association of the Chinese Mainland & Hong Kong, have urged the Government to give more support to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with China set to enter the World Trade Organisation. Mr Lam said SAR companies should seek to co-operate with mainland enterprises instead of seeing them as competitors. He said Hong Kong firms could make use of technology and resources in China to complement their businesses. The Government could also assist SMEs by renting out offices at discounted prices, he said. Meanwhile Mr Chan urged the Government to set up a mechanism to help the families of SAR businessmen detained in the mainland.
