A GUINNESS Book of Records hopeful has ended up in hospital after roller-skating almost non-stop for 16 days - all for nothing.
Indian Harish Chander had flown into Hongkong especially to attempt breaking the roller-skating endurance record of about 14 days.
But all he has to show for his efforts is exhaustion, after an embarrassing catalogue of errors.
The 21-year-old's efforts at the Sportsworld circuit in Telford Gardens were ill-fated from the start. The Hongkong Amateur Roller-Skating Association, which he had asked to supervise the marathon session, not only failed to register him in time, but also was unaware of the requirements for participation.
The London-based Guinness Book of Records no longer promises inclusion to endurance sporting feats. It also requires notification at least a month before a record attempt takes place.
In the event, Chander had already started his marathon skating attempt when the association put in the request.
Guinness also lays down strict rules on record-breakers being supervised at all times - which appear to have been ignored throughout the marathon.
