The Hong Kong Open is set to win yet another 11th-hour reprieve and take its place in this year's sporting calendar.

The territory's oldest professional sports event has been living a hand-to-mouth existence over the last few years because of difficulties in securing sponsorship.

Last year, in fact, promoters Spectrum failed to land a title sponsor and were forced to underwrite the tournament themselves.

However, organisers are expected to announce today that the tournament will continue for at least another year.

But there is still speculation over where, when and under which body it will be held.

The Hong Kong Open has traditionally been held at the Royal Hong Kong Golf Club at Fanling as part of the Asian Tour.

At the end of last year's event in November, organisers were seriously considering the prospect of switching allegiance to the relatively new Asian Professional Golfers' Association's Omega Tour.
