Three years ago former Gurkha officer Mike Trueman found himself hanging upside down from a ledge on the treacherous Annapurna 4 in the Himalayas.
He survived and next month will return to tackle Everest, the world's highest mountain.
Mr Trueman is leading a 20-strong expedition from the territory to the base camp. He will then join an international team for the climb to the top. If successful, he will be the third Hong Kong climber and the 26th Briton to reach the 8,848-metre summit.
The trip to the base camp is being organised by the territory's first container terminal operator, Modern Terminals Limited, to mark its 25th anniversary.
The team leaves on April 4. It hopes to arrive at the camp, 6,000 metres above sea level, eight days later.
