The escalating appetite for technology will drive the world's electricity demand to increase more than 50 per cent through 2030. As this develops, the world faces the dilemma of increased carbon emissions as a result of the generation of additional electricity. Energy management specialist Schneider Electric provides solutions to this challenge by offering services that promote more responsible energy consumption.

"We're solving the energy challenge by changing the way people consume electricity," says Philippe Arsonneau, senior vice-president for Schneider Electric's information technology (IT) business for Asia-Pacific and Japan.

From motion sensors that automatically turn off bedroom lights to smart grids that systematically allocate power supply across whole cities, Schneider Electric offers the latest technologies that can help reduce power consumption by up to 30 per cent.

The company optimises, automates and monitors clients' electricity use in more than 100 countries across the residential, commercial and industrial sectors, including power utilities and data centres. Schneider Electric estimates that the smarter use of power will ultimately cut carbon emissions by approximately 57 per cent through 2030.

With the acquisition of American Power Conversion in 2007, Schneider Electric became the leading designer and provider of IT infrastructure for data centres worldwide. These solid credentials backed by world-class and responsible product offerings have enabled Schneider Electric to provide end-to-end support to rapidly expanding, high-profile clients including Microsoft, IBM and data centre solutions provider Digital Realty Trust.
