Emerging economies such as Brazil and China are poised to dominate markets for raw materials and manufactured goods by 2050.

As labour and production costs in Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa become competitive, interest for high-quality equipment and services also heightens.

Anticipating the demand for combustion technology applications commonly used in cement and emission industries, Durag Group merged with Durag Siena do Brasil last year to provide the country's combustion equipment requirements while expanding the market.

Durag Siena manufactures rotary kiln burners mainly used by cement, pulp and paper producers. The company dominates the market with a 60 per cent share in Brazil for rotating burners. With the merger, Durag Siena aims to duplicate this success for Durag Group's product line composed of combustion technology, environmental process data management and emission monitoring systems.

"We manufacture local products using Durag Siena technology," says Ednaldo Silva, Durag Siena's managing director for sales and marketing. "Soon, we will manufacture Durag Group's products for export to Europe and Asia, making us more competitive."

Durag Siena's combustion systems are also applied in heat treatment, ethanol and sugar manufacturing plants, among others. "Any industry where you have a boiler or a furnace, we have an application for it," Silva says.
