NIEC enhances power semiconductors with gallium nitride solutions

NIEC announced gallium nitride (GaN) product lines on October 2
at CEATEC Japan. Incorporating next-generation technology by collaborating with a strategic partner, United States-based company Transphorm, the GaN product lines allow customers a much higher efficiency level in their power conversion, along with a smaller form factor, that could not be achieved by the existing silicon solution. The efficient use of electricity is a win for everyone.
"We believe October 2 started the new era for power conversion," Esaka says.
NIEC is expanding in Asia by transforming its Hong Kong office into a regional base by next year. It also has offices in Taipei and Singapore. NIEC is allying with a Chinese foundry, which is opening a factory in Taizhou, Jiangsu province, and eyeing distribution channels in Shenzhen and Tianjin.
The company's two main Japanese factories are supported by facilities in Subic, the Philippines, Kaohsiung, Taiwan and Shanghai.
"Our goal is to establish research and development in China. We are excited about the innovation potential with young and bright Chinese engineers especially in the electric vehicle and solar power industries," Esaka says.
