Panalpina is among the top-four air and ocean freight forwarders in the world, and has been active in the Middle East for 25 years. Its regional headquarters in Dubai has been serving as the company's hub for its growing regional operations over the last decade.

"Dubai has evolved as a strong regional distribution centre for the Middle East and increasingly for Africa," says area manager and Middle East managing director Claus Schmidt. "This is where we see the future - with strong growth happening between Asia and the Middle East, Africa and even into Latin America."

With 17 offices across China and nine offices throughout the Middle East, Panalpina leverages its network to deliver reliable door-to-door solutions. It operates a 12,000-square-metre regional hub at Dubai Logistics City free trade zone, combining multimodal air, ocean and land transport services. The facility has Dubai customs present on site, ensuring fast turnaround and clearance into Dubai and the GCC.

While oil and gas, hi-tech and telecommunication industries have driven much of its success, Panalpina sees the Middle East's increased ties with Asia as an opportunity to expand its tailor-made services.

Panalpina is exploring the retail and fashion and automotive industries, and aims to provide specific solutions for the health care sector as a new competence area. Another strategic focus is further development of its contract logistics solutions including pick-and-pack services and cool chain systems.
