Oppo is going after Samsung with the new Oppo Find X2 flagship

Chinese phone maker unveils first new phone in its premium Find X series after two years, introducing a 120Hz display to take on the Samsung Galaxy S20

It would be an understatement to say smartphone displays are important in 2020. Just think about the amount of time people spend each day scrolling through Instagram feeds, gunning down opponents in Fortnite, or binging Netflix shows.

Just like its biggest rivals this year, Oppo is introducing the best display it’s ever put on a smartphone with its latest flagship.

The Find X2, a successor to 2018’s Find X that was notable for its pop-up camera, sports a 6.78-inch, Samsung-made AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The high refresh rate has become a popular feature this year, and it matches what Samsung offers in the new Galaxy S20. That makes it one of the smoothest screens you can get in a handset right now. (If you don’t mind the wait, though, the upcoming OnePlus 8 from Oppo’s sister company is also expected to have a 120Hz screen.)

Oppo’s new phone also has a 240Hz touch sampling rate to match, which means it should respond to your swipes and taps faster than most smartphones on the market. And its maximum brightness of 1,200 nits is even brighter than the Samsung Galaxy S20 -- a feature that Oppo says should make the screen comfortable to look at in any environment. The 3168x1440-pixel resolution is on par with the S20.

The screen has curved edges, too, spilling over the sides with a 67.8° curve. It’s a less extreme form of the so-called “waterfall” design that Oppo first showed off last year.
